Rahul Gandhi’s visit to riot-affected areas of Northeast Delhi is a week too late. And it was an exercise in TRP politics and tokenism. Congress was missing on the ground when goons were on rampage. The slothful and seemingly disinterested party isn’t functioning as an effective opposition, thereby weakening democracy.

  1. To be fair, Shri Rahul Gandhi is not the only senior political figure who was required to visit north east Delhi, to provide comfort, sympathy, assurance. In his case, he is a part time politician. Others were sending out a more troubling message, that Muslim lives don’t matter, although the figures suggest it was two thirds Muslims and one third Hindus. 2. One three year old Muslim girl, our Ananya’s age, being told her father is unwell, will return from hospital after a long time. The heart trembles to think how much unreasoning hatred is embedded in some people.
