India should thank a low base for the impressive 8.7% GDP growth in 2021-22. Omicron and the Russian invasion will, however, prevent a repeat in fiscal 2023. Growth has already slowed again and inflation has become endemic. Government and RBI should focus on ensuring India doesn’t end up with stagflation.

BJP position on Kashi, Mathura not reassuring. Supporters should be discouraged

BJP president J.P. Nadda’s announcement that the party would go by the Constitution and court verdicts in Kashi, Mathura mosque-temple disputes is far from reassuring. BJP-RSS supporters are actively pursuing this agenda and need to be explicitly dissuaded. India can’t risk more majoritarian triumphalism in the name of righting history.
