Trump’s tariff outburst over Russia oil isn’t about any principle or policy. It’s an egomaniac, angry move at not being given fawning credit by Modi government for the India-Pakistan ceasefire. He’s torching India-US trust built over three decades. Trump’s no leader of the American Right. He is an elected dictator.

Modi-Shah’s assurance to Chandrasekhar about bail to Kerala nuns is disturbing

Kerala BJP fighting for nuns arrested in BJP-run Chhattisgarh allegedly for forced conversion, is ironic but understandable. It needs Christian voters in Kerala. What’s disturbing is Modi-Shah’s assurance to Kerala BJP chief Chandrasekhar that Chhattisgarh government won’t oppose their bail. Arrests and bails can’t be a matter of political convenience.

5th Test shows cricket is truly an international institution

Siraj’s large heart and India’s stunning England victory aside, the 5th Test shows above the partisan, political hue many give it, cricket is truly an international institution. Played by India, England and adjudicated by a Pakistani, Sri Lankan, and Australian, the game went beyond borders. On field, everyone’s a one-worlder.

JMM founder Shibu Soren’s death marks the end of an era in Jharkhand politics

JMM founder Shibu Soren’s death marks end of an era in Jharkhand politics. 1. Shibu Soren will be remembered as one of the most corrupt politicians in independent India’s history. Unfortunately for the nation, the son Hemant Soren has far surpassed his father as far as corruption is concerned.
The Kerala nuns had absolutely no business being in Chattisgarh. The Chattisgarh government must round up and arrest anyone found to be loitering around the sensitive Maoist infested tribal areas of the state. If Christians in Kerala get offended, so be it.
President Trump is the best thing to have happened to the USA. The US economy is booming due to his policies. The tariffs, instead of hurting the American consumer have ended up boosting the US economy. Trump is absolutely correct in categorising India as a protectionist state. Our tariffs are amongst the highest in the world. Modi did not pay heed to the carrot dangled by Trump 1.0. Hence, Modi has to bear with the stick in Trump 2.0.

  2. Calm, measured response to President Trump. Polemical statements best avoided. Let the underlying strengths of the relationship reassert themselves.
