Our country is now probably sailing through a most turbulent yet exciting time. National election is on the way, 2 phases out of 7 already over, political vibes are running high, the voices of political campaign by top leaders and die-hard party cadres now can be heard at highest decibel despite the unprecedent heat swelling all around our country. There is a galore on debate on climate change, at least with the young generation and the intense heat is acting as catalyst to this debate.

Our country is witnessing multiple changes since last two decades. The change that Indians are now looking for is to reckon India to be a leading global player. Indians start seeing the country in elevated platform. Earlier days, in 50’s to 90’s , Indians were looking to reckon themselves as “developing economy”, now the country is looking for the next stop – an “advances economy”.

Our benchmark is already set high.  After a grand tasting success in landing on moon, which caught global attention, next the country is aiming to lounge Gaganyaan, a project which envisages human spaceflight capability. The status of our country in Global economy is constantly rising over last two decades, from nowhere, to 10th spot and currently in 4th position in terms of global GDP ranking and fast approaching towards 3rd position.  And of course the target of achieving aa $ 5 trillion economy is in cards. India now features at least one if not two, in list of top 10 world’s richest person. On the other hand, India’s poverty level is improving, number of poor people (below poverty line) are now almost half than what was two decades ago. As per findings of the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) for 2022-23  conducted by NITI Aayog , less than 5% of Indians are now expected to be below the poverty line and extreme destitution has almost gone away.

In the field of Information Technology, India is now placed in a dominant position globally. Almost all global giant IT companies have their shops in India. The start up eco system India is burgeoning rapidly. In the field of AI/ML India is now progressing faster than many advanced countries.

Domestic flying is all time high and is in the rise. Our major airlines are ordering new aircraft in 100s and more numbers at a time! Have we heard this earlier?  International holiday tours are rising every year, even ordinary citizens with their family are packing their bags and arriving at international counters in airports, travelling to neighboring countries to as far a Antarctica!

Take sports. Now a days 200+ runs in IPL is a new norm. 7 out of 8 highest IPL runs scored in an innings happened in 2024 so far, that to just mid-way of the tournament. In international cricket, India is now a dominant force. In Olympics, India is well positioned and earnings more medals than earlier.

So, why India is drenched with so much of awful problem? Why India is a country where poverty is still very high in global standard ? Why of per capital income is so low compared to other Asian countries ? As per IMF, the per capital income in India is only $ 2.73 th as against $ 7.81 th in Thailand and $ 2.65 in Bangladesh. Why Indians are not happy person ? As per latest World Happiness Report India stands at 126th position of our of 143 countries. Why unemployment is so high? In the latest report published by International Labour Organization in 2024 is disappointing..   Why inflation could not be tamed ? Why our cities, including mega cities lacks proper infrastructure? Why there are so many farmers suicide every year?

Some if the measures need to be urgently taken to beat the malaise stated above are as follows :

  1. A good & measured administrative governance (at National and State level) – impartial, nonpolitical , respectful and forward thinking
  2. Corruption free ( or at least reduce substantially) and competent leadership whose mission should not dominate to make money and power.
  3. Channeling economic resources in productive channels by ease of doing business, automation and digitalization, reduce unnecessary statutory compliance burden and simplify tax laws. \
  4. Modernize education system , public health, social welfare and cleanliness every where,
  5.  Attention to science and technology, R&D, , creation of Intellectual proprietaries  –
  6. Improve productivity – from farming to industry through technology and efficient supply chain system.

Our country has large pool of young talents, employ them, encourage them towards out of box thinking , we will , we must and we can put our country in bold path with novel ideas and its successful execution. Lets not dream anymore, lets bring it in reality.
