Congress can die, but if one wants it to exist, one should not demoralize it constantly, by this double-speak, writes Murali Dharan.

Some in the media, who are not totally pro-BJP, believe that the Grand old Party will soon die a natural death.  In fact, some of them have clearly expressed the wish that Congress should die soon.  Many, who grant Congress the right to exist, feel that the party should shed its ambition to be the alternative to BJP.  They gloat over the failure of Congress in various assembly elections.  Plenty of free advice is given as to how Congress should be subservient to the regional parties that are opposed to BJP.   West Bengal, Delhi, Telengana and Tamil Nadu are cited as the states where they feel that Congress should not compete with the local regional party.

In visual media chat shows, these anti-BJP, but ‘not-pro-Congress’ critics shed crocodile tears at the continuing implosion of Congress and joke about its goof-ups while offering truckloads of advice to the beleaguered party.   In fact, they end up being more anti-Congress than anti-BJP!  In other words, the main opponent to Congress seems to be the mainstream media

This is not to say that Congress should be supported.  Congress can be criticized, judged and condemned.  But, pray let the media is honest about this.  Those who feel that a viable opposition can be cobbled sans Congress should say so openly, instead of showing fake sympathy to the GOP and mocking it too, in the same breath.  Congress can die, but if one wants it to exist, one should not demoralize it constantly, by this double-speak.
