New Delhi: The World Bank Group has announced the launch of a comprehensive plan to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030. The plan will provide targeted assistance to 500 million people in developing countries, with half of them being women and girls.

The key focus of the plan is on increasing resilience against climate shocks, which will be achieved through cash transfer systems that ensure that those in need receive resources directly, said the World Bank in a press statement.

It also pledged to support the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, established by Brazil, which aims to coordinate knowledge and exchange solutions on hunger and poverty across the country. The initiative will also provide country-by-country data on hunger, poverty, and social protection coverage, to assist governments in making informed decisions, it said.

The International Development Association (IDA) will provide financing support for countries to implement policies aimed at responding to hunger and poverty. The IDA already provides the main source of grant and concessional funding for poverty and hunger reduction.
