New Delhi: UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell issued a statement Saturday expressing deep concern about the ongoing violence impacting children in Israel, the State of Palestine, and Lebanon. The statement comes as the region continues to experience conflict, resulting in significant casualties and displacement among civilians, including children.
Russell emphasized the obligation of all parties to protect civilians, particularly children, humanitarian workers, and vital infrastructure like schools and healthcare facilities. She underscored the importance of unimpeded access to life-saving aid, stressing that these obligations are being blatantly disregarded.
The UNICEF Executive Director highlighted the severe impact of the conflict on children, stating that tens of thousands have died, with thousands more experiencing captivity, displacement, loss of loved ones, and the lasting trauma of violence and war.
Russell condemned the ongoing violence, calling it an affront to humanity’s most basic values and demanding an end to the violence against children.
