New Delhi: The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Sunday Abdourahamane Diallo of Niger as the new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Congo, a UN press release stated.
With over over 20 years of experience in development, Mr. Diallo has served in several positions at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), including his most recent role as UNESCO Representative to Nigeria. In that position, he spearheaded UNESCO’s response in education, science, culture, and communication, the release noted.
Additionally, he was the Head of Office and Representative of UNESCO in Brazzaville (2009-2013), Kinshasa (2014-2018), and Accra (2018-2023). Diallo started his career with UNESCO at their Paris headquarters as part of Niger’s permanent delegation to UNESCO. In 2002, he transitioned to a programme specialist role in the Africa department, overseeing cooperation with the African Union and various subregional and regional African organizations. In 2006, he led the department’s Regional Organizations, addressing African countries in crisis and post-conflict settings and cooperating with the African Union and African Regional Economic Communities.
Mr. Diallo holds a degree in industrial computer engineering from the Hautes Etudes Industrielles in Lilles, France, and a Master of Business Administration in international business engineering from the Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris, the release added.
