Steiner said the agency is committed to supporting the humanitarian response in Gaza through its Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People. The agency will focus on clearing rubble, providing emergency employment, transitional shelter, and supporting public services, a press release stated.
“Based on extensive assessments and consultations, including with the Palestinian Authority, our ongoing efforts to restore livelihoods, rehabilitate damaged infrastructure, and support locally driven solutions will be intensified as part of our early recovery and longer-term development work,” Steiner said.
He called for rapid and unhindered access to goods and services, along with a secure and supportive environment to restore services, resume economic activities, and scale up recovery efforts.
The release noted a prediction by the agency that the 51-day conflict set back development in Gaza by a staggering 69 years and reiterated UNDP’s commitment to Palestinian-led recovery efforts that foster dignity, self-reliance and socio-economic stability for the Palestinian people.
