New Delhi: A statement issued by the UK government in response to the UN Human Rights Council 56 Statement on Discrimination Against Women and Girls noted that the UK was particularly pleased to read of the 40 plus constitutional changes to advance women’s and girls’ rights over the past decade.

However, the statement also shared concerns around the heightened backlash and the need for concerted collective efforts to counter it. The statement emphasized that until all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls are eliminated, empowerment cannot be achieved.

The UK government said that it is committed to taking urgent collective action around the world to ensure that no one is left behind. The Working Group on Discrimination Against Women and Girls has produced a crucial report that shines a light on the challenges faced by women and girls around the world.
