New Delhi: The UK government has announced an additional £4.5 million in funding to support Ukraine’s efforts in seeking justice for war crimes committed during the ongoing conflict with Russia. The funding will be used to aid in the documentation, investigation, and prosecution of war crimes, complementing the UK’s work with the US and EU partners via the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Group.
This new funding package comes amidst a broader commitment from the UK to provide £3 billion in military aid to Ukraine annually for as long as needed. The government has also provided over £282 million in bilateral funding for humanitarian, energy, stabilization, reform, recovery, and reconstruction programs in Ukraine over the 2024-25 financial year.
The UK has also played a key role in facilitating international support for Ukraine, including securing a £2.26 billion loan from the World Bank and coordinating the efforts of the International Fund for Ukraine, which has received over £1.3 billion in pledges from international partners to date.
“Throughout 2024, the fierce courage of the Ukrainian people has continued to inspire the world,” said UK Defence Secretary John Healey. “As we enter 2025, the UK’s resolve to reinforce support for Ukraine is unwavering.”
“I’m proud of UK leadership on Ukraine. From delivering cutting-edge equipment to training tens of thousands of troops, we have shown the UK stands with the Ukrainian people in the face of Putin’s brutal, illegal invasion,” he added.
The government’s commitment to supporting Ukraine was further underscored by the recent visit of Defence Secretary Healey to Kyiv, where he announced a new £225 million military package. The package includes funding for air defense systems, maritime drones and boats, counter-drone technology, and munitions.
