New Delhi: The United Kingdom has condemned the Houthi attack over Gaza, describing it as a “horrific and inhumane” assault that has left hundreds dead and thousands injured. “Humanitarian workers in Gaza must be allowed to carry out their work safely,” said Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Barbara Woodward.

In a statement delivered at the UN Security Council, the UK Permanent Representative called for an immediate ceasefire and for Hamas to release all hostages, while also condemning the use of heavy weaponry, which she said has created nowhere safe in Gaza.

The United Kingdom statement read: “As we’ve heard, over 41,000 people have now been killed, tens of thousands more are injured. 17,000 children are without parents. And 101 civilians remain hostage in Gaza, subject to horrific and inhumane conditions for almost a year.” Apart from these, the statement also noted the deaths of 300 aid workers including the killing of six UNRWA staff last week. It called for an “immediate ceasefire”.

“We join the Secretary-General’s call for compliance with international law, especially the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution in attacks. We are horrified by the further killing of aid workers,” the statement added.
