New Delhi: A day after his arrest in a corruption case, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was indicted by a court Wednesday for unlawfully selling state gifts during his premiership.
Also known as the Toshakhana case, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman is accused of not disclosing information on gifts presented to the state depository and their alleged sale.
In March, the police had failed to arrest Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case after clashes with PTI supporters in front of the politician’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
The former cricketer was arrested on Tuesday from the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case, for allegedly causing a loss of 190 million pounds to the country’s exchequer in a settlement between his PTI government and a property tycoon.
Judge Mohammad Bashir on Wednesday reserved his verdict in the trust embezzlement case, after hearing arguments of the defence and the plaintiff.
The probe agency, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), had requested a 14-day remand of Khan.
The PTI chief was arrested Tuesday by the paramilitary Pakistani Rangers on the order of the NAB.
