Narayan Dahal, the brother of Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has filed his candidacy for chairman of the country’s National Assembly. His nomination has pitted him against Yuvaraj Sharma, from the opposition Nepali Congress.
Dahal has been nominated for the National Assembly by Gopal Bahadur Sharki of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN). Similarly, Sharma’s candidacy was proposed by Ananda Prasad Dhungana of the Nepali Congress.
The vote on the selection of the National Assembly chairman is scheduled for Tuesday.Narayan Dahal entered politics in the 1980s. He became a Maoist central committee member in 1997 and was elected to the parliament from Chitwan-3 in 2008.
His rival Sharma, on the other hand, is a former Banke district chairperson and was elected to the National Assembly in 2022.
