New Delhi: The government of Kazakhstan has passed a new law that will support the widespread use of renewable energy sources in the country’s heating sector, an ADB press release stated. The law supported by the Asain Development Bank is aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in the country by 2060.
The law will require local governments to prepare heat master plans for each period of planning, which will include an assessment of existing heat sources and outline concrete steps to improve energy efficiency.
The new law will help transform the country’s heating sector from a traditionally coal-based system to cleaner sources including renewables, and is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of ordinary citizens in terms of improved heating conditions and reduced carbon emissions.
The ADB is committed to working with the government and people of Kazakhstan to promote sustainable and efficient energy systems that meet the country’s climate needs, the press release added.
