New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan survived another day Thursday when the National Assembly session to debate a no-confidence motion was adjourned till Sunday morning.
Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri called off the session barely ten minutes after it convened after Opposition members demanded an immediate vote.
Suri said the Opposition was “not serious”. Geo News reported that there were more than 172 lawmakers present in the Lower House, enough to pass the no-confidence vote against Khan.
Geo News reported that Khan had offered to dissolve the assembly if the no-confidence motion was withdrawn.
Source told the publication that Khan had sent an “important person” as his messenger to Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif. The Opposition, which saw it as an appeal for a “safe passage”, was in no mood to indulge Khan.
“We have the numbers. We will benefit if the process is completed on the motion as soon as possible,” an Opposition leader told Geo News.
Imran Khan also chaired a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting at his home Thursday.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also announced on Twitter that Khan will address the nation some time on Thursday evening.
