New Delhi: French daredevil Remi Lucidi, who is known for climbing skyscrapers, lost his life after falling off a 68-storey residential building in Hong Kong.
According to reports, the 30-year-old was climbing the Tregunter Tower complex and got stuck on a penthouse window of the building. The exact time and date of his death remains unclear. The reports also said that Lucidi was seen banging on the window of the penthouse of the Tregunter Tower asking for help, which prompted a worker inside to call the police. The climber, however, lost his footing and fell off the building.
The police are yet to release the actual cause of the death.
Lucidi, who went by the name ‘Remi Enigma’ on his social media handles, was known for conquering some of the most picturesque architectures of the world, in cities such as New York, Dubai, Gabrovo, and Lisbon. He has also inspired people to go on adventures. Lucidi’s social media is flooded with pictures from his skyscraping adventures.
Days before his untimely death, Lucidi had shared a picture of tall, lighted buildings from New York City’s Times Square. He had captioned it ‘Hong Kong’.
In one of the most daring videos posted on Instagram, the French hiker was seen ascending a 300 ft chimney in France, the tallest in the country.
According to Hong Kong officials, the French adventurer was seen at Tregunter Tower around 6pm Saturday. He told one of the security guards that he was visiting a friend who lived on the building’s 40th floor. Lucidi managed to get into the elevator, despite a guard trying to stop him.
CCTV footage from the building recorded Lucidi taking the elevator till the 49th floor and then using the stairs to climb to the top of the building. An open latch leading to the building’s top floor was discovered and ignored by the residents.
However, at 7:38pm Lucidi was seen banging the doors of the penthouse for help before the experienced climber lost his balance and fell to his death.
The Hong Kong Police have recovered Lucidi’s camera from the scene which contained the late adventurer’s photos and videos from previous triumphs.
Taken aback by the death of the adventure enthusiast, many fans have expressed their grief over his untimely demise.
Gurjit Kaur, owner of the Hong Kong hotel in which Lucidi stayed, has been quoted as saying that the climber was a “friendly and humble guy”. Another worker at the hotel revealed that the hiker was on a vacation to Hong Kong and had plans of going on a hiking trip to the mountains.
