China will lift duties on Australian bottled wine from 29 March 2024, ending a two-year block on Australian exports, the office of the Australian Prime Minister announced in a statement on 28 March.

The removal of the duties will benefit both Australian producers and Chinese consumers, the statement said.

It added that the Australian wine industry had been severely affected by the imposition of duties on wine from 2020, which made it unviable for Australian producers to export bottled wine to China.

Australia’s wine exports to China were worth $1.1 billion in 2019.

The Australian Government welcomed the outcome of the negotiation process and acknowledged the support of Australian grape growers and wine producers during this challenging period.
