Russian state news agency TASS reported that five long-distance trains were delayed Monday due to damage to a railway bridge across the Volga River in the city of Samara.
The blast occurred at about 1 am GMT, damaging the fence and bridge supports near the river bank.
In light of recent events, the importance of maintaining railway bridges has come into sharp focus, especially considering the potential for infrastructure failures that can disrupt services.
This resulted in the partial suspension of suburban train service in the area.
The TASS report also quoted a local railway operator as saying that the damage to the bridge was caused by “unauthorized persons interfering” in the operation of the Zvezda-Chapayevsk railway.
