New Delhi: The Government of Australia announced a significant contribution of AUD 13 million (USD 8.4 million) to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for 2024. This funding will support UNDP’s core resources, which are crucial for the organization to deliver on its mandate of supporting countries in achieving their national development goals and addressing global challenges like climate change, poverty reduction, and resilience in vulnerable regions, a press release by the UN agency stated.
Australia’s contribution is particularly vital for UNDP’s work in Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), where the organization focuses on assisting countries with sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction, the release added. The funding will also support UNDP’s efforts in other vulnerable regions and countries facing complex crises, such as Myanmar and Afghanistan.
“Australia’s support will enable UNDP to continue its essential work across 170 countries and territories,” the organization stated. The funding will be used to implement development-focused solutions that help prevent violent conflict and promote peace-building, aligning with the broader goals of the United Nations for stability and prosperity.
