The top officials of ASEAN member states will discuss a wide range of strategic priorities, including the organization’s external relations and preparations for the upcoming Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane on July 25-27.
The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) convened in Vientiane on July 23, with the Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN for the ASEAN Political-Security Community also participating. The summit will focus on discussing a range of issues, including Lao PDR’s ASEAN chairmanship priorities, ASEAN’s external relations, and preparations for the forthcoming 57 ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings.
All ASEAN member states and the Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN for the ASEAN Political-Security Community will attend the meeting. Timor-Leste will participate as an observer. The Prime Minister’s Office said that the summit will provide an opportunity for the top leadership of ASEAN member states to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the region, identify priorities for the future, and adopt a work plan to address them.
