New Delhi: The leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have adopted a declaration on skills mobility, recognition, and development for migrant workers. The declaration was signed at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, held Saturday in Vientiane, Lao PDR.
According to an ASEAN press release, the declaration aims to enhance cooperation among ASEAN member states in facilitating the movement of skilled workers within the region. It engages and benefits the people and is inclusive, sustainable, resilient, and dynamic.
The document outlines strategies for promoting skills mobility, including the development of a common framework for skills recognition and certification. The release also emphasizes the importance of protecting the rights and welfare of migrant workers and ensuring their access to decent work and fair treatment.
The ASEAN Member States emphasized their commitment to realizing the goals of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, including an ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community that engages and benefits the people and is inclusive, sustainable, resilient, and dynamic.
