New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) appointed Shanny Campbell as its new Country Director for Laos. Campbell assumed office this week, the ADB announced in a press release.
As the new ADB leader, Campbell will support Laos’s national development goals, including a 60% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
“I am honored to serve in this new role as ADB’s Country Director in the Lao PDR,” said Campbell. “I look forward to working closely with the government and development partners in supporting the country’s sustainable public finances, enhancing equitable access to services, and advancing its climate commitments.”
Campbell boasts 31 years of experience across 26 countries in transport, energy, agriculture, water resources, and finance. Previously, she was ADB’s Country Director for Tajikistan.
According to the ADB release, she joined ADB in 2010 from the private sector. Campbell earned a Master of Development and Bachelor of Science from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
The Lao PDR joined ADB in 1966. As of December 2023, ADB has provided the country with $2.7 billion in public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance across 365 projects.
