In a crackdown aimed at disrupting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) militant group’s activities ahead of the general elections, Pakistan police have arrested 39 more workers of the party. The 39 workers were arrested on charges of rioting, attacking a policeman, and ransacking official vehicles. The arrests bring the total number of PTI workers apprehended during the three days to 72.

Raids have been carried out across the city, and the police have been using digital evidence to identify and track down the suspects. The Tehreek-e-Insaf has been accused of inciting violence during a rally at Teen Talwar over the weekend, in which dozens of people were killed and more than a hundred were injured. The PTI leaders and workers have been charged with a range of crimes, including terrorism, arson, and rioting.

The Sindh High Court on Tuesday granted protective jail to 95 of the workers, saying that they had been unfairly detained during the raids. However, the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court (ATCs) refused to grant physical remand to 30 other PTI activists, sending them to prison on judicial remand until February 15. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced intra-party elections on February 5 to replace the outgoing leadership team. The Federal Election Commissioner, Raoof Hassan, released the intra-party schedule on PTI’s social media account.
