Kathmandu, Jun 8 (PTI) Two Indian nationals were arrested on Monday in connection with allegedly smuggling nearly 45,000 bananas worth Rs 2.78 million in Nepal’s Lumbini province, police said.
Kalim Khan, 20 and Rijwan Ansari, 22, residents of Uttar Pradesh, were arrested for bringing the bananas to the Himalayan nation through illegal channels without paying customs duty, police said.
During an operation, police recovered 3,790 dozens of unripe bananas in a rented godown in the Bardiya district. The police also seized two pickup vans and a motorbike used for smuggling the goods.
According to the police, the smuggled bananas cost around NRs 4.44 million (approximately Rs 2.78 million). The seized fruits were handed over to Rajapur Customs Office, Bardiya. PTI SBP GRS GRS GRS
