The survivor of the twin blasts at the Brussels Airport in 2016 spoke of how she had recovered from the incident.
Actor Ranveer Singh may have been the star at the recent Off The Cuff, but the most inspiring tale came from 2016 Brussels blasts survivor Nidhi Chaphekar, who spoke of how she had recovered from the incident.
Chaphekar, who was in the audience, said she did not let the tragedy bring her spirits down and forged ahead, telling the audience that she was just like the actor in that regard.
“Jidhar bhi jao dhamal kar do (create an impact wherever you go),” she said.
Singh was in conversation Tuesday with ThePrint’s Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta, and Contributing Editor Mahrukh Inayet.
Despite being told by doctors that she would never be able to walk because she had lost a heel, had sustained 25 per cent burns, and was missing several muscles and bones, Chaphekar said she no longer looked like someone who had lost so much, because she chose not to.
Chaphekar, a flight attendant with Jet Airways at the time, became the face of the twin blasts at the Brussels Airport in March 2016. The blasts claimed the lives of 32, and over 300 were injured. After the incident, Chaphekar was put in a medically-induced coma.
“I did not relate to my family for a few days. He was saying ‘I’m your husband’, and then I got up with my daughter’s voice that they used to make me hear,” she said.
Chaphekar also asked Ranveer about how he struggled to make it as a star, given he was an outsider to the entertainment industry. She said her son was currently going through the same struggle.
