New Delhi: The demand for smartphones and RO water purifiers in Tier 2 towns and cities appears to have surpassed the demand in Tier 1 cities, a new survey has found.
Realme was the most searched smartphone brand across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, the survey conducted by Mumbai-based internet technology company Just Dial Monday said.
The findings of the survey were based on search results from 142.7 million unique visitors to the Just Dial site during October-December 2021.
“Overall searches in Tier-II cities have remained 12% ahead of Tier-I,” Prasun Kumar, Just Dial’s marketing head, said in a statement.
Most searched products
The top five most searched products on Just Dial were smartphones, RO water purifiers, air conditioners, car batteries, and car accessories. Sixty per cent of the searches were for smartphones, followed by water purifiers (15%), car accessories (9.67%), ACs (8.5%), and car battery (6.73%).
The survey compared the search results for 2021 with the results in the corresponding period in 2020.

Among Tier 1 cities, Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad registered the maximum number of search results for smartphones. Among Tier 2 cities, Chandigarh topped the list, followed by Jaipur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Patna.
For RO water purifiers, search results in Tier 2 cities were 16 per cent higher than in Tier 1 areas. Among Tier 1 cities Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai registered the most searches for water purifiers. Lucknow, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Patna, and Indore, showed the most interest in water purifiers, in Tier 2 cities. Tier 2 areas showed 33 per cent higher interest in car batteries than Tier 1 did.
