With a total of 47 sections and two schedules, the Model Tenancy Act proposes completely overhauling the legal framework of rental housing across the country.
Act proposes rent & duration of tenancy will be fixed by mutual consent between owner, tenant through written agreement. Model law, though, is not binding on states.
We now live in a world order that will keep shifting. India must use this window. This also means we remain disciplined enough not to be knee-jerked into reacting to what Pakistan sees as its moment in the sun.
