The case is related to violence at Jamia Millia Islamia against CAA in December 2019. Imam will remain in jail as he is accused in three other cases related to violence in Delhi.
JNU student Imam was arrested for alleged making inflammatory speeches during CAA & NRC protest at Jamia and AMU in December 2019. He has been in judicial custody since January 2020.
Denying bail to him, a Delhi court judge said Sharjeel Imam's 2019 speech was on communal lines and its content 'tend to have a debilitating effect on the peace and harmony'.
Imam, who has been arrested under UAPA and booked for sedition, denied inciting violence and said he didn't say the Northeast should become a different state & declare independence.
Imam was arrested for his alleged speech at Jamia Millia Islamia and at Aligarh Muslim University, where he allegedly threatened to cut off Assam and the rest of Northeast from India.
A sections of farmers from Bhartiya Kisan Union Ekta (Ugrahan) were seen holding posters of detained activists Wednesday. A photo of these farmers has now gone viral.
In supplementary chargesheet in Northeast Delhi riots case, cops claim Yadav directed Sharjeel Imam to mobilise students for chakka jam & that Umar Khalid introduced the two.
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad said the mandatory period of 90 days to complete the probe will be completed on 23 November and the charge sheet has to be filed.
Sharjeel Imam's arrest is not the first example where literary works have been presented as evidence by the police or judiciary to frame charges against an accused.
As you read Delhi Police's 17,000-page charge sheet in Delhi riots case, ignore every question because you must not allow petty facts to disturb a good story.
