The former Marathi journalist came to be associated with Sena in 1980s, and was once close to Raj Thackeray. Owing to his meteoric rise, he made many enemies, even within the party.
The agency is understood to have questioned the Sena leader about his 'business links' with aide Pravin Raut and a former builder; also about property deals involving his wife.

Rajya Sabha MP Raut was issued the first summons for Tuesday but he sought more time. He has been issued another summons asking him to appear before the ED on 1 July.
Case pertains to alleged irregularities to the tune of Rs 1,034 crore in redevelopment project. ED earlier provisionally attached assets worth Rs 11.15 crore owned by Raut, his wife and family friends.
