Malicious actors sprang into action soon after reports of the Pahalgam attack, ramping up activity in the following days. They created fake domains mimicking legitimate services to deploy malware targeting Indian government and defence personnel.

Hours after ThePrint revealed that Maxar had been receiving orders for high-resolution satellite images of Pahalgam, including 10 days before the attack, the company removed the Pakistani firm from its website.

India’s modern diplomacy in the weeks since Pahalgam has followed a pattern observed in 1971 — when PM Indira Gandhi visited several Western capitals in the months leading up to the war.

Maxar Technologies began receiving orders for high-resolution satellite images of Pahalgam in June 2024, just months after a Pakistani geospatial firm indicted by the US became a partner.

Operation Sindoor was a military response, but it was also something more. A reminder that the answer to hate isn’t just defence. Sometimes it’s dignity.

India’s expected retaliation for the Pahalgam attack crossed a number of lines, not visible on the ground but existing on diplomatic drawing boards.

For obvious reasons, international support would be harder to recruit if India were seen as deliberately inflicting drought on millions in Pakistan.

The incident took place during a protest at the Pakistan High Commission in London. The UK Foreign Office has “encouraged” both India and Pakistan to dial down the rhetoric.

The scale of India's response to Pakistan will be a political decision. How the Armed Forces will achieve the aim set out by the Prime Minister is a matter of speculation.
