Ex CM Jagadish Shettar lost Hubli-Dharwad (central) seat to BJP candidate Mahesh Tenginkai by 34,289 votes, while Laxman Savadi won in Athani by 76,122 votes over BJP’s Mahesh Kumathalli.
Miffed over ticket distribution, Savadi & Shettar joined Congress earlier in April. This could pose a challenge for BJP in Kittur-Karnataka, a region that sends 50 MLAs to assembly.
On 12 April, Savadi resigned as Legislative Council member and from BJP’s primary membership after the party reportedly asked him to make way for newcomers.
