Mostly skeletal human remains discovered by hikers on 25 June, in the vicinity where Sands had vanished, were positively identified as belonging to the actor, the police said.
Sands was reported missing on 13 January this year after he had gone hiking alone in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains, about 80 km northeast of Los Angeles.
