India, the world’s most populous country, is a major economic and political power in South Asia. Known for its vast linguistic, cultural, and geographic diversity, India has a rich history that spans thousands of years, with deep-rooted traditions in philosophy, science, art, and religion. Its large population and vast history mark its economic and cultural importance.
While India’s civilization can be traced to the Harrapan era, that is, 1400 BCE, its modern political boundaries were established in 1947 when it gained independence from British rule. It is now a federal parliamentary democracy with 28 states and 8 union territories, with New Delhi as its capital. India has a democratic system with a multiparty political landscape, with the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party being the two dominant national parties.
As one of the fastest-growing major economies, India is a global hub for technology, manufacturing, and services, while also being an agrarian powerhouse. It is a nuclear-armed state and plays a key role in regional and global geopolitics, maintaining strategic partnerships with various nations.
India is one of the most ethnically and religiously diverse countries in the world, home to multiple religions, sects, castes, and tribes. It has more than ten-thousand languages and hundreds of regional dialects, with Hindi and English serving as the two of the 22 official languages. Despite economic progress, India faces challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and environmental concerns, alongside managing its complex social fabric and regional disparities.
It is surprising that the author misunderstands or misinterprets Indian side of the issue. CAA is to correct the historically injustice to the minorities mainly initially from Pakistan and later from Bangla Desh who crossed over to India up to a defined date as they had no where else to go and who can not even think of going back to their own countries. This humanitarian gesture is for a specified number of people crossed over to India up to specific date and not on an on going basis after that specified date. This is therefore a one time measure. Instead of asking to account and hold Pakistan responsible for the suffering of these innocent people, everyone including US and EU are busy blaming India for passing CAA. This is the real travesty of the issue. No one seems to understand, let alone acknowledge, that under Indian citizenship law, anyone (including Muslims from Pakistan) can get Indian citizenship once certain conditions are fulfilled. Hence, the question of excluding person with any religion background from getting Indian citizenship by naturalization, simply does not arise. India is a multi religious country and neither CAA nor NRC affects Indian citizens ( of any religious background) in anyway. Thus, any references to India in this article is completely erroneous.
wow! so an american think tank expert starts talking about not whitewashing pakistan’s mistreatment of it’s minorities, gies on ranting about modi n his policies n the mistreatment of kashmiris n muslims in general in india, gives us gyan based on conjectures on how to treat our own minorities n then writes a few lines on how pakistan also has a few issues in treating their own minorities.
where do u find such gems print?
btw she can Bs as much as she want,we ain’t buying it.
Can Modi and Shah read this Article.
Kudos any way to the author, for a timely warning of a slippery hell.
So overntly and indefinately discriminatory residence laws were fine but CAA is weong all in same article only Ivy league laggard can do this.
The wording of CAA was a mistake. Religious persecuted would have been enough as there are no Muslims in those countries who are persecuted except some Ahmadiyas.
Who is writing this ??? It’s surely not for me.
Only Muslims have indefinate rights to their land. In a same article author can justify continuing discriminatory land and residency laws in Kashmir but India cannot provide solace to discriminated minorities in neighbourhood infact these wretehed minorities will be used as shield to push economic migrants. Author would do well to explain why 46 Muslim country have most discrimnatory citizenship laws against non muslims and how is this tolerated on continuing basis in this modern world.
We should mind our own store. Pakistan ke saath hamara kya lena dena.
