Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Assam Chief Minister in May 2021. Till 2015, Sarma was a part of the Congress and a young and ambitious leader considered close to then CM Tarun Gogoi. In 2011, Sarma manged the election campaign for the Congress, and helped it win an unprecedented 79 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly. However, with Tarun Gogoi projecting his son Gaurav as the face of Assam’s Congress leadership, he quit.
In 2015, Sarma joined the BJP and quickly rose to prominence becoming finance minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal government, then convener of the North East Development Alliance (NEDA). He has been credited as the man behind the BJP’s increased foothold in the Northeast.
As Assam Chief Minister, Sarma — though an ‘outsider — has steered many policies seemingly aligned with the Sangh agenda, including the passage of the Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Act, asking for the reverification of the National Register of Citizens and carrying out demolition drives to evict “illegal encroachers”.
No doubt HBS would emerge as second Amit Shah. He is the pillar of NE BJP . He is the symbol of success.
Already we have seen how BJP is handling administration of our country.
Wait 3 years more then indians should choose an alternative if the next generation has to get their livelihood n progress
No,it will be BJP only, won’t vote for minority appeaser congressis and Pappu
Can one even imagine such an article being written about Congress? It is even remotely possible that in Congress, anyone other than its first family can be in the pole position, leave alone an import from its arch enemy?
I had a lot of respect for you. But you let me down by your ignorance and carelessness about north east. Vijay Rupani is Gujrat chief minister and H B Sharma is in Assam.
Biswa is an opportunistic guy. India requires people who are with one particular party and not turncoats like this guy.
Please stop promoting the so called tough leader from BJP who are at mercy of RSS, they make or otherwise of leaders. Hope you all remember what RSS did whe he asked Modi to follow Raj Dharma. Even he did much better than Modi, RSS simply did not work for his second term.
One thing both national parties share : an aversion to strong regional leaders. Vijay Rupani is preferred to Himanta Biswa Sarma. That works so long as the central leadership suffices to win elections.
