Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Assam Chief Minister in May 2021. Till 2015, Sarma was a part of the Congress and a young and ambitious leader considered close to then CM Tarun Gogoi. In 2011, Sarma manged the election campaign for the Congress, and helped it win an unprecedented 79 seats in the 126-member Assam assembly. However, with Tarun Gogoi projecting his son Gaurav as the face of Assam’s Congress leadership, he quit.
In 2015, Sarma joined the BJP and quickly rose to prominence becoming finance minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal government, then convener of the North East Development Alliance (NEDA). He has been credited as the man behind the BJP’s increased foothold in the Northeast.
As Assam Chief Minister, Sarma — though an ‘outsider — has steered many policies seemingly aligned with the Sangh agenda, including the passage of the Assam Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Act, asking for the reverification of the National Register of Citizens and carrying out demolition drives to evict “illegal encroachers”.
Himanta biswa sharma’s covid handeling is questionable ????? Come on Assam has the best recovery and one of the lowest covid death in India and did much better than your secular Kejriwals and Mamtas.
Undoubtedly Himanta biswa Sarma is one of the tallest leader and could deliver the best on tough times for the benefit of the party . He is the most hard working politician and a mass leader we have seen in the entire north east .
Having observed Shri Sharad Pawar’s political journey for long, one would urge Shri H B Sarma to become CM of Assam and endure for a long time, with added responsibility for North east affairs. Tall, verdant canopies do not grow well in Delhi’s arid air. All the more at the present time.
Complimenting and shutting bricks….commijuhadi?
“Views are personal” – please replace this with “Views are biased”.
Dont forget the money which is unlimited with BJP.
lmao burnol moment for you
It is interesting to see the confusion in the “finest young reporters and columnists” of The Print when it comes to understanding BJP. On one day Begum Zainab Sikandar states that Yogi Adiyanand will emerge as a challenger to Shri Narendra Modi in 2024. On another day Smt Ruhi Tiwari rubbishes the Yogi. By the way, when she opines that BJP’s bench strength is “underwhelming”, which party is she comparing BJP with?
POOHI is a CONGRASS journalist
POOHI has the sharpest political brain
THE CONGRASS Prince needs someone with sharp political brain.
POOHI is wasting her time posing as a journalist.
She is poor mans barkh a dutt. Devendra fadnsvis delivered in Maharashtra by winning double the seats . He is not cm because of shavsena.
It won 105 seats from the 164 seats it contested. When compared to 260 seats it contested in 2014 were it won 122 seats
This is called as MSM school journalism. They want to only find alpha i.e. Modi, Shah, Yogi or Himanta. But they do not make that BJP has been very adaptive and open and it is reaping gains due to it.
Unless these journalists move from analysing individuals to processes in the parties – it is hardly helpful. Faces are important but that is not which makes a party.
