I hv admired the intellect of Mr Tharoor for many a reasons. He very rightly has said that when you appreciate good acts of PM Modi, your crticism of his wrong policies gain credibility. This is such a factual nd insightful statement by anyone in d recent times. RG has bitterly failed to emerge a leader due to his exaggerated focus on PM Modi than on his role of a responsible opposition. There must not b a divide on article 370, Balakot. These r bills approved by d parliament irrespectove of minority representation of d opposition in the upper house. Congress nd others instigating on d this issue via media is not only shameful but very anti- nation.
Lets hv protests on d cases which r more issue-based than be a personality-based.
Hyphenation should be ignored. Keep focus on national interest; grow economically and militarily in a collaborative manner and by cultivating allies. Stand your ground.
Americans, from the very beginning took the cue from the Brits in foreign policy. The British were partial towards Pakistan till the sixties and deliberately equated India with Pakistan till Pakistan broke up.
De-hyphenation is something India’s analysts dream up as a substitute for serious strategic thought. America de-hyphenated the relationship because of their interest in an economic relationship and the need to contain Chinese expansionism. If they need to hyphenate the relationship to India, it will be because of their national interest. The same is true for India as well. We want to be treated separately from Pakistan but, if it helps us, we don’t mind leveraging other areas in dealing with Pakistan. The muted reaction by Arab nations is yet anther example of de-hyphenation because of the deep economic ties that exist with India. It should be noted that Nehruvian economic policies were a recipe for shallow foreign relationships that created these silly arguments about de-hyphenation.
No matter, how many times India and our MEA made it clear about this issue, the media and writers always fancy to dream about what will others do. If you don’t have anything to write about, create a story.
Two hyphens are possible : one with Pakistan, which has been the past, another with China, which many hoped would be the future. Where it finally gets lodged depends how well India lives up to its promise and potential. 2. If at all warranted is the new Indian posture towards the question of Kashmir and a dialogue with Pakistan. The world would respect that position, so long as it does not lead to war. A necessary corollary to this self confident position is that a India should stop seeking the global community’s help to counter cross border terrorism, raising this issue in global fora.
Correct. As long as India keeps wailing about Pakistan’s perfidy, in international fora, the possibility of hyphenation exists. Along with not talking to Pakistan, India needs to stop the Wagah border tamasha, responding in international fora, like the UN, SCO, NAM etc. to Pakistan’s provocations and seeking approval from all and sundry in its dealings with Pakistan. Time India develops a spine.
Exactly.
