If Biden or his subordinates have any misconceptions about who is who in Quad, they better shed those off quickly. This is not
pre-2014 India, and USA is a boss no more ! Quad is a partnership of EQUALS, with a goal, not extension of US’s global power ambitions. They need to grow out of that state of perpetual daydreaming. Can’t afford to lose an ally, if they are looking to “contain” China, and build some influence in Indo-Pacific region. As is they don’t have a lot of friends in that region. Besides, people know their fame of someone who would not waste a split second in sacrificing a friend for their vested interests. So…..
Very true. What should bother India more is the Chinese control over the economies of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, and to a certain extent, Bangladesh. If our neighbours have been weighed down under the burden of debts, they have no option but to politically align with their creditor.
It all is all about money and power, which in turn will beget wealth. The aim for India, however, is to take on the comprehensive challenge that Beijing has offered, ranging from trade, technology, aid and connectivity. Also, it will only be then we will become an equal partner in the QUAD and work this relationship to our advantage. It will be suicidal for India if we confine QUAD activities – as also such activities with countries like Britain, France etc -, only to military. Let us not be under any illusion. To be in a commanding position, looking West, East or North, we do need a strong military. If we are forced to take overt military protection in any way from anybody, we will only grow weaker and suffer in the long run.
The main issue with China is not Military. That is so even in Ladakh region. India can definitely walk the talk in trade, technology and connectivity. India should also not confine engagement with China to LAC. In these times all great powers (India?) always leave a window open for “fresh” air.
India needs a strong and purposeful leadership and a media which discusses real issues rather than on trivial issues like ripped jeans and contrived perceptions like shackled speech and un-democracy!!!
Tail piece: What we do will matter more than what we wear or say.

Name any alliance in which US is a member and rest of the members are treated equal. It’s an Indian dream to assume that US will not lead Quad.
