Whether the supreme Shakti is seen as a grama devata or protector of village or a goddess of disease removal, an uncontrollable force of nature that men cannot easily subdue as in the Yakshi or as the supreme divine herself is a matter of place and location. The Yakshi finds an altar in almost every Devi temple in Kerala. She is worshipped. Because she is a small manifestation of the infinite power of the goddess. From this point of view, a Yakshi has a maternal relationship with Lord Ganesh who is sought to be reduced as a divine embodiment of the supreme being in order to demean his stature in Hindu culture. Ganesh, jihadis don’t understand, is an expression of the one supreme divine intelligence that permeates all of creation. He is the witness of all four states of consciousness. He is therefore the manifest expression of OM, first elucidated in the Mandukya Upanishad, at least 2000 years ago. That is the importance of Lord Ganesh in Hinduism.
