Bangladeshi Hindus can go to Europe and USA? So where are they? I was born in the UK, there are no big Bangladeshi Hindu communities here. The Hindus of Bangladesh are some 15-17 million. If they were leaving in numbers for the west we would expect sizeable Hindu Bengali populations here. We have larger Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil populations in the West. Bengali communities here are overwhelmingly Sylheti Muslims.

Even if India is declared a Hindu nation it will remain a secular nation because without being secular Hinduism becomes meaningless. It’s completely absurd to view Hinduism and Islam on the same assumptions. Unlike Muslims, for thousands of years when there was no Indian constitution, Hindus had always given complete freedom to immigrants of different religious groups to profess their religions. Hindus have secularism inbuilt into their belief system and it will remain that way as secularism now has become part of Hindus DNA. However, the secular trait of India will remain alive only until Hindus are the majority in India. As soon as Muslims become the majority, India will become an Islamic nation and Taslima type people would be persecuted in India as well. Unchecked population explosion of Muslims is a fact and Hindus have to be fearful of future of India.

The author makes a funny argument. This is hardly about individuals. Just looking at the decrease in percentage of Hindus in Bangladesh over the years proves that it is no place for them.

I am afraid religion started taking center stage in India when Pakistan and Bangladesh declared themselves as Islamic Republics. Until then, Indians did not bother about the religion of the illegal immigrants. Just before 1971 war, India had over 90 lakh refugees. At that time, no body bothered about their religion, but people generously fed them and gave them clothing. In 1971, contributions poured into these refugee camps to give them succor. Now, several decades later we are told that most of these refugees were persecuted Hindus. Our neighbours sowed wind. We are reaping whirlwind!
