Besides amplifying Dalit protests, social media has lowered the barriers to entry into the political discourse for Dalits.
ThePrint is publishing articles on Dalit issues...
Mini deal will likely see no cut in 10% baseline tariff on Indian exports announced by Trump on 2 April, it is learnt, but additional 26% tariffs are set to be reduced.
Capable of being fired in plain and high-altitude areas, it has day-and-night capability and two-way data link to support post-launch target, aim-point update.
As Narendra Modi becomes India’s second-longest consecutively serving Prime Minister, we look at how he compares with Indira Gandhi across four key dimensions.
So you’re saying that some kind of united front against the Govt no matter what the issues are ? If that is so, your are so foolishly everted in your unreasonable prejudice !!! Hahaha….
no, he is saying issue-based solidarity. he is saying to stand up not only for your own rights but also of your neighbours.
Usually I like what Dilip Mandal-ji had to say but this time I cannot agree – you say: “Even though the protests were led by students belonging to all communities, the dominant image that emerged was Muslim.” – who is responsible for not representing the truth? The Godi Media!! For people who get their news from non-partisan media, it is clear that the concience of the nation is stirred at last. Sure we have to break out of our silos, and we saw a glimmer of that when Sahela and Jignesh campaigned for Kanhaiya. Now the time has come to speak-up: one for all and all for one.
Some fellow Hindus I know and meet daily, especially those with limited economic means, are hopeful of getting land once Muslims are “kicked out”.
Some believe there will be more jobs to go around.
Looking forward to this.
tell your friends that resources are not a cake to share and eat. a new cake can be baked – resources can be generated – jobs are made when economy is good. there are old zamindars in Bihar and new industrialists in Mumbai who have much too much land – why not ask them to give it to the needy? false dreams that land of muslims will be fairly re-distributed to all. it will be gobbled up by the rich friends of modi/shah.
The irony in this is that socialism will create more poverty and this poverty will in turn lead to more Hindu-Muslim tensions because the fight is actually for the limited resources. The solution to all our problems, be it caste discrimination or communalism, lies in a free-market privatized economy, increased expenditure on public services & poverty mitigation measures. We have to create new wealth instead of emphasizing WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION. But unfortunately, those who sympathize with Muslims are socialists and those who support a free economy don’t care about a peaceful & harmonious society.
“[O]ur protests mirror the larger social segregations and divisions that exist in society.”
The author is right to question the existence of these divisions. We should also ask why these divisions have been institutionalized. Who benefited from these divisions? What was the rationale?
But perhaps a better question to ask would be how does one ameliorate these divisions? What theory of mind is appropriate here? What institutional walls need bolstering and which need tearing down?
