The cyclone made landfall on Sri Lanka's eastern coast on 28 November, unleashing intense rainfall and exposing 2.3 million people to cyclone-driven flooding, said the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

On the Indian side, the cyclone is located about 320 km south-southeast of Karaikal, 430 km south-southeast of Puducherry, and 530 km south of Chennai.
The IMD said the storm, with strong winds and the potential for hefty rainfall, is expected to reach the southwest coasts of the Bay of Bengal by early morning on 30 November.
The category-3 storm was categorised as a 'severe tropical cyclone' by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. The destructive winds have already destroyed severals buildings in the region.
