1. Alliances are for accommodative convenience and that is what they should be. Smt Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav know that in Uttar Pradesh alliance of BSP & SP may reap huge benefit. Alliance of BSP and SP would pose a big challenge to BJP in coming Lok Sabha election. 2. These are: (a) BJP and rest of NDA do not get a clear majority (win less than 200 seals) and the Congress manages to win about 180 (b) Regional parties in UP, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal and Telangana together win about 200 seats and the Congress wins less than 100 seats. When such uncertainties exist, who can say what will happen after Lok Sabha election later this year. Both Mayawati and Mamata Bannerjee are ambitious politicians; both have prime ministerial ambitions. Question therefore is this: who will be able to dictate terms when it come to formation of alliance government in the Centre? We will have to wait for some more time to know how alliances take shape in other states and find out whether UPA and NDA become stronger or weaker.
