Bihar is blessed with a land more fertile for revolutions than any in India. Why has it fallen so far behind then? Constant obsession with politics is at the root of its destruction.
Distrust is the legacy of the 150 years of the British rule. As foreign rulers they looked at everyone in this country with distrust and that is the way every occupying power rules. Post independence the Indian rulers and the people even with little authority have followed and excelled in that art. The way question are asked, please explain why you should not prosecuted, what has the Sushasan Babu done? This is a typical mindset of humiliating the other the moment one senses power or authority. The people in power in those days had no obligation to suggest / provide solutions , in an independent country all of us are obliged to ask question and wherever possible suggest solutions. Bihar is a poor state, difficult to administer. The city of Patna cannot afford to invest enough in its infrastructure to deal with normal demands made upon it, much less the exceptional rainfall that was dumped upon it. After making due allowance for these mitigating factors, CM Nitish Kumar’s response is unworthy of an administrator of his stature. He was equally dismissive of the horror and tragedy of the Muzaffarpur shelter homes case. Perhaps he needs to look within, ask himself why he is still at the crease. The magic of the wrists is long gone.
