Bihar is blessed with a land more fertile for revolutions than any in India. Why has it fallen so far behind then? Constant obsession with politics is at the root of its destruction.
There is another aspect of Bapu which is not mentioned by anyone- he was also a very good commentator for cricket matches on AIR and DD in early 80s. His typical words of praise for a bowler to batsman would be ‘full marks to Bishen Bedi or Eknath Solkar etc etc”. If many of us learnt nuances of cricket through commentaries by Vijay Merchant, we also enjoyed Bapu’s crisp pronunciations and vivid description of the game. In passing away of Bapu, Bombay cricket of 60s comprising cricketers like Polly Umrigar, Ramakant Desai, Dilip Sardesai etc., has lost one more gentleman cricketer.
Started following cricket when Ajit Wadekar was India’s captain and Farokh Maneksha Engineer kept wickets. It was at that time became aware of legends like Bapu Nadkarni among others. R.I.P.
Nadkarni is the only cricketer from my home town Nashik, who played for India. RIP dear Bapu.
