The secretary of the Cricket Association of Bihar, Aditya Verma, wrote twice to Vinod Rai, threatening to move Supreme Court if BCCI failed to initiate action.
Forget comparing it with classics like Hrithik’s Ek Pal Ka Jeena or the slick title track of Dhoom 2, Janaab-e-Aali does not even come close to Ghungroo.
India’s industrial output growth saw a 10-month low in June, with Index of Industrial Production (IIP) growing by mere 1.5% as against 1.9% in May 2025.
Standing up to America is usually not a personal risk for a leader in India. Any suggestions of foreign pressure unites India behind who they see as leading them in that fight.
Shri Vinod Rai left on a high as CAG. Some people believe his figures of losses caused by the allotment of coal mines and spectrum were excessive, that the subsequent cancellations hurt not just the allottees but also the economy, contributed to NPAs. My view is that there was undeniably a great deal of wrongdoing, as an auditor he was flagging the issue, acknowledging that the exact figure was a matter of methodology and judgment. The cancellations made by the apex court were in the public / national interest. So one feels surprised why Shri Vinod Rai took on responsibility to head the Banks Board Bureau, which has contributed zilch to resolving the problems of the PSBs, especially NPAs. He cannot be blamed for the apex court appointing him India’s cricket czar, but he could at least have stepped down at 70. Whatever the truth of this particular case, he is undoing a fine track record of public service. T N Seshan made an ass of himself, standing for President, dropping in for breakfast with Bal Thackeray, seeking support from a man the ECI had debarred from voting.
There is a difference between Seshan and Vinod Rai. Seshan’s ambition found expression in a place where there was a crying need for improvements. He was a bully, but his bullying tactics produced some good results for the Election Commission. Vinod Rai is a beggar who wanted to be a millionaire. He achieved his goal by simply lying to the world that he was a millionaire. He deliberately lied to be called a great man. His lie was caught but he has no shame in enjoying the fringe benefits that came from his great lie. BCCI job is one such fringe benefit.
