Donald Trump made history on 5 November, becoming the first candidate in over 130 years to win a Presidential election after losing his first reelection bid. Trump, the 45th President of the United States of America, will also be the 47th President of the country – a feat matched only by Grover Cleveland who was President from 1885 till 1889 and 1893 till 1897.
Trump beat his Democratic opponent and sitting Vice President Kamala Harris, winning at least 277 out of 538 electoral votes. Harris, who was attempting history herself, to become the first woman of Black and South Asian heritage, lost important battleground states like Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
As the next President of the US, Trump will take oath in January 2025, replacing Joseph R. Biden Jr. who defeated him in the 2020 election cycle.
As of 6 November 2024, Trump is also leading Harris in the popular vote by almost 5 million votes. If the lead remains, it would be the first time Trump has won the popular vote in his third attempt.
The next American President also makes history as the first convicted felon to win the presidency, as well as the first who has been impeached twice in the past to reclaim the White House.
So many Indian origin people in US politics. Kamala with an Indian mother, JD Vance with an Indian wife and Ramaswamy. More often than not though, they are with republicans. I guess it is a party for the very rich and very poor.
President Biden has been very unfair to the Democratic Party, also the United States. His performance during the TV debate showed the world what his minders and keepers had been concealing for a long time. Not fully fit in mid 2024, end 2028 a distant prospect. 2. VP Kamala Harris cannot overcome the twin MAGA challenge of Senator J D Vance. Now the presumptive Republican nominee for 2028. So young. 3. Difficult for the Democrats to rustle up a credible challenger at such short notice. The gathering storm will sweep the House and Senate as well.
