(Reuters) – Uruguay soccer player Juan Izquierdo, who collapsed on the pitch after going into cardiac arrest last week, has died, his Club Nacional de Football team announced in a post on X on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old defender had been undergoing medical treatment since he collapsed on Aug. 22 during a Copa Libertadores game between his Nacional team and host Sao Paulo.
