The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (formerly known as Pataudi Trophy) kicked off in an exhilarating fashion earlier this month, with England landing the first punch in the five-match series that is the next chapter in the India-England Test cricket rivalry.
India and England first met in Test cricket in 1932 at Lord’s, marking India’s debut in the format. England won that match, beginning a long and storied rivalry.
Post-Independence, India’s cricketing strength grew, with notable series like the 1971 tour when India won their first series in England. England dominated early decades, but India later gained ascendancy with stars like Tendulkar, Dravid, and Kohli. Iconic contests include India’s 2007 and 2021 series wins in England and England’s 2012 win in India.
The second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England, to be played at Edgbaston, is set to begin from 2 July onwards. India, long chasing a series win on English soil, face a steep mountain ahead, while England will continue to push their home dominance further with the momentum gained from this win.
