Mumbai, Apr 25 (PTI) Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane were named icon players while Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande, Ayush Mhatre and Sarfaraz Khan were retained ahead of the T20 Mumbai League.

India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav was also retained by Triumph Knights Mumbai North East along with Mhatre and Suryansh Shedge.

Shreyas Iyer (icon player), Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harsh Aghav were retained by last year’s runner-up SoBo Mumbai Falcons.

The league features eight teams and each side retained three players — a mix of players with international experience and emerging talent.

Deshpande is the icon player for last year’s winner South Central Maratha Royals, who also have Siddhesh Lad and Rohan Raje.

Jaiswal is the icon player for Bandra Blasters who also have Suved Parkar and Dhrumil Matkar.

India all-rounder Shivam Dube is the icon player for ARCS Andheri who have Pragnesh Kanpillewar and Deepak Shetty in their ranks.

Akash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs have Sarfaraz as their icon player along with Mumbai spinner Shams Mulani and Jay Bista.

Similarly, Rahane is the icon player for North Mumbai Panthers along with India U-19 World Cup winning squad member Abhigyan Kundu and Tanush Kotian.

Thakur is the icon player for Eagle Thane Strikers who also have Atharva Ankolekar and Sairaj Patil.

“The retention of some of the biggest names in Indian cricket reflects the strength and credibility the T20 Mumbai League has built over the years. At the same time, the opportunity for young and emerging players to share the dressing room with such established stars is invaluable for their growth and development,” said Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik.

The completion of the retention process will be followed by the player auction. The tournament is expected to be held in the first half of June along along with the inaugural edition of the three-team Women’s T20 Mumbai League. PTI DDV UNG
